The Inspector,(his nickname) a neighbor of my parents in Hudson Florida, walked with his sons across Poland to Sweden. Sweden has a long coastline on the eastern side and the Scandinavian mountain chain (Skanderna) on the western border, a range that separates Sweden from Norway. It has maritime borders with Denmark, Germany, Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, and it is also linked to Denmark (southwest) by the Öresund Bridge.The inspector finally was able to come to the USA soon after reaching Sweden as an allied war refugee, and worked from day one, never took a dime that he didn’t work for and his oldest son ended up playing Professional basketball in the NBA for five years.
My wife’s Grandfather and his brother, same story. They walked across Russia to Sweden, changed their Surnames slightly, came to the USA with an unbelievable work ethic. No help from anyone other than a job, was ever accepted. Any language other than English was forbidden in their homes.
My brother and I after getting inoculated and granted visas to enter the USA, joined the Army two weeks after setting foot on American soil. We had to carry our Alien Registration Card on our person at all times. As did all Legal Aliens. My Brother Larry became a Helicopter Pilot Instructor CWO4, and Embry Riddle graduate with a Batchelor’s in Airport Management. I became a Radiation Therapist. And that’s all I will relate for the sake of brevity.
Karen, my wife traces her lineage back to the Mayflower, and keeps contact with some of her relatives through Historical records of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and with phone calls and periodic visits to Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Their history is the same as most of America’s successful; hard work driven by ambition. — I say this to make one point. Low achievers will always be a burden to society. I will never understand how anyone can live without a burning ambition to make something admirable of themselves.– After all the excuses, and reasons and arguments for compassion, low achievers will remain under-achievers, because they grew up being shirkers, crawling along with the least effort possible. –Whose job was it to inculcate the skills necessary for children to be all rounded successful persons? That is the domain of the traditional family and it’s extensions. A “living wage” will always be the mantra of low achievers and under achievers. And that’s the biggest waste of human potential, outside of Genocide.
